I just recently received a new commission to paint a WWII Destroyer in oils. The subject is USS Bailey (DD-492)!

USS Bailey is a Benson class U.S. Navy destroyer that served during WWII and in particular was a key player in the Battle of the Komandorski Islands.

USS Bailey received the Navy Unit Commendation.

She was launched on December 19th, 1941 and was decommissioned on May 2, 1946 and then finally stricken on June 1, 1968.

For this subject, I will be painting this ship in oils on a 16" x 20" canvas. I've already started studying the subject and have drawn up a small "thumbnail" compositional sketch.
